Coach Players Not Numbers

Nike Elite Competition 8-Panel Size 6 Women's Basketball - Amber, 6
Gone are the days that you should pigeon hole a player, labeling her as only a 1 or only as a 5.

The game of basketball has changed and if you don't get with it you could get left behind. Labels can limit a player and hurt her in the long run.  It's safe to say that if your tallest ball player is 5'9 you have to play her in the 5 spot.  It's also safe to say that after four years of high school ball there are going to be 6'4, 6'6, and 6'8 ball players at the college level. What do we do now?

Basically, this athlete is could get left behind if all areas of her game have NOT been worked on equally.

This whole time we have been working back-to-the-basket on a drop-step.  Her natural position at 5'9  is a guard. Somehow we neglected to work on ball handling, a mid-range jumper, passing, and creating your own shot.  Not to mention a 3 point shot.

Now it panic mode! Is there anything we can do once this player is this far behind?

Teach all skills sets at game SPEEDS to all of your players. The more game speed tools a player has the more value she can bring to the game.
