All around the globe basketball players use the summer months to improve their game. The bottom line truth is that some Colligate & Professional players return home during the summer months to visit their families. During this time the College & Professional player needs to find a place to work on their game and stay in shape. This is your window of opportunity so I only have one question for you
What are you doing this summer to enhance your game?
In a short time, I am going to share with you a quick recipe of ideas that will increase your confidence and bring you results that your coach will notice.
Location, Location, Location!
You need to locate where the best competition plays basketball. You need to have that “Gazelle Intensity” to locate where the best of the best is working on there game. Look under every rock, and around every corner. Sometimes you are going to find a goldmine, other times you are going to find an empty shaft. Look into contact all the local High School, Junior College, and University Coaches in your area. The later might be a little more difficult, so you might try your local armory or military base. If that does not work look into your local YMCA or Girls & Boys Clubs.
Schedule
Are you a motivated player looking to take your game to the next level? Make it your personal mission to find out when the local schools in your city have “Open Gym”. Create a schedule for yourself to maximize your time. For example (Place, Days, Hours)
Recreation Center
Monday - Thursday
12 pm to 4 pm
Military Base/Center Gym
Saturday & Sunday
7 am to 11 am.
Open Gym
Open Gym is normally set up by the Head Basketball Coach so simply give him a call or send him an email. Introduce yourself and ask him what days of the week he opens his gym up for pick up games.
Then, contact your local University or Junior College to see when they have summer workouts or Open Gym. There is also nothing wrong with becoming friends with some of the better players that you meet therefore, make sure you ask questions that will move you closer to your goal. Sample Questions
- How did you become a better team player?
- How many hours per day do you work out?
- How many total shots do you shoot per day?
- What drills helped you out the most?
- How do I become a better defender/dribbler/ shooter?
If you follow this plan I guarantee that you will locate the best competition in your area. If you are consistent you will find yourself on the path taking your game to the next level. Let’s face it, staying within your comfort zone by playing 21 everyday with the same players (on your level) will not help you reach your goal this summer.
The ball is in your court now with that being said.
WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO TO THIS SUMMER TO IMPROVE YOUR GAME?
