The Last Fiddle
For the most part, basketball
in the Tampa area is stuck in the mud. Other sports like football, volleyball
and baseball dominate as the sport of preference. For basketball enthusiasts it
may seem like a bad dream, but when you wake up things are still the same way.
(And let's not forget to put Facebook and Twitter in the mix of things that
basketball competes against.)
This
consist of basketball being the last fiddle, one month for middle school, and
what level your athlete needs to be at. Why is this the case? Is this the
case in your city?
It should be easy to get
a basketball game started; two players, a hoop, and a basketball are all you
need. Compare that to other sports that require a specialized field and teams
of nine or eleven players! You can’t
play a serious One-on-One game of football or baseball.
Many times I drove by
the local park and saw the basketball court empty. This includes the
courts that have lights on at night. However, if you drive by Skyway Park
you will find a packed house. Why is this a reality? I thought all sports
were created equal.
